On January 19, the closing event of the H2MAT project on "Multilayer hybrid metallic structures to be used in contact with hydrogen" was held at the BEC, with the participation of 13 companies interested in the results of the research.
The event, which was attended by 34 representatives from 22 entities in the hydrogen value chain, began with a welcome from Marcos Suarez, from the Basque Energy Cluster, and an introduction by Iñaki Hurtado, from Mondragon University, who, as coordinator, outlined the current situation of materials in the world of hydrogen and briefly summarised the H2MAT project.
Several partners then presented the main conclusions they have reached after two years of research. Fernando Santos, from Azterlan, began with a presentation on High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), explaining their characteristics and possible uses in contact with hydrogen. He was followed by Nerea Burgos, from Ceit, who presented their compatibility and the interfaces obtained by means of different technologies in the framework of hybridisation of HEAs with steel. Finally, Teresa Guraya from the UPV/EHU described the technologies analysed for the permeation, adsorption and absorption of hydrogen in steels.
This was followed by a discussion session in which the companies present expressed their interest and offered their views on the aspects of the project that they found most attractive. The companies that took part in the event were: Hine, Iberdrola, Lumiker, Innomat Coatings, Nippon Gases, Saitec, Talleres Hadimek, Tamoin, TDF Pump Rental, Team Ingeniería and Ulma Forja, and the consortium partners Sidenor and Tubacex. The event was also attended by other entities such as Cidetec, Lortek and SPRI.
The event ended with a "coffee-networking" session, where attendees took the opportunity to talk to the speakers in person and meet other professionals in the sector.
The H2MAT project is funded by the Elkartek 2022 programme of the Basque Government's Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment. The consortium is coordinated by Mondragon University and also includes Azterlan, Ceit, Sidenor R&D, Tecnalia, Tubacex Innovación and UPV/EHU, and the Basque Energy Cluster.
