The Energy Cluster deems the Lehendakari's remarks on the capacity of electrical networks in Euskadi as "very timely"

The General Director of the Basque Energy Cluster, José Ignacio Hormaeche, has spoken in various media outlets (ETB2, Radio Euskadi, Telenorte, El Correo, and Deia) in response to requests for information and inquiries from these media regarding the speech by Lehendakari Imanol Pradales, in which he called on the Spanish Government to commit decisively to increasing electrical capacity in Euskadi.

In his speech on March 19, the Lehendakari urged the Spanish Government to commit decisively so that Euskadi can increase its electrical capacity to decarbonize and electrify its industry and thus tackle all industrial projects in the pipeline with guarantees: "The Spanish Government must get involved to increase the capacity of the Basque electrical grid. It must do so by unlocking latent capacities; that is, activating the megawatts already available. And by decisively investing in higher capacity transmission and distribution networks." He added: "It is a matter of reading the moment and having the political will to address it."

In his statements to the media, the Director of the Energy Cluster noted that the Lehendakari's words come at a very timely moment, as they highlight the urgent need to undertake anticipatory investments in electrical transmission and distribution networks. Investments in new infrastructures and digitalization will allow the Basque industry to access the necessary power to electrify its energy consumption, thus advancing in its decarbonization processes and strengthening its competitiveness.

In his various statements, José Ignacio Hormaeche explained the various regulatory measures needed to address these investments: generally increasing the maximum investment volume in distribution and/or transmission networks, recognizing the various types of equipment and digital solutions of special relevance to strengthen electrical networks, and sufficiently and incentivizingly remunerating investments.

He also highlighted the great opportunity that the electrification of the economy offers to Basque companies in the electrical networks value chain, where Euskadi has a large number of highly competitive and well-positioned equipment and systems suppliers in international markets.
