At the last meeting of the Oil & Gas Sector Forum on 17 May, it was decided to refocus the strategy and activities carried out towards the opportunities of the energy transition, leading to the creation of a new Sector Forum, called Low Carbon Solutions (LCS), which will focus on three areas:

• Design, development and manufacturing of components, systems and technology for the production of low-emission hydrogen and carrier liquids.
• CO2 capture and use technology.
• Design, materials and manufacturing of equipment for alternative fuel production facilities (biorefineries, biomethane, waste gasification, pyrolysis, etc.). In this context, the Basque Energy Cluster organised the first meeting of the Low Carbon Solutions Sector Forum on 29 October, coordinated by Tubacex and attended by representatives of more than 50 entities.

The conference focused on learning more about the activity of various Basque benchmark organisations in the field of LCS solutions. Specifically, the companies Ampo, IDOM and Lointek, as well as Tubacex, shared their interests, capabilities and references in this field with attendees. The Basque Energy Cluster also shared its activity plan around four service areas: dynamization, technology, internationalisation and strategic monitoring. During the session, participants also had the opportunity to share their specific interests through an online survey, which confirmed that Basque entities share an interest in topics such as capturing, using and storing CO2, synthetic fuels and the production of low-emission hydrogen.

The day ended with American company Hephae Energy Technology, whose European location is in the Basque Country, sharing its perspectives on the development of drilling technology for non-conventional geothermal energy.
