CENTRE FOR ADVANCED TESTING, VALIDATION AND INTEGRATION OF INDUSTRIAL SUBSYSTEMS FOR THE WIND SECTOR
WINDBOX is the first Advanced Manufacturing Centre for Wind power in Euskadi, aimed at improving the competitiveness of Basque suppliers in the wind power sector and their technological positioning in the international markets.
Basque companies Antec, Erreka, Glual, Grupo Wec, Hine, LauLagun and Siemens Gamesa, coordinated by the Basque Energy Cluster, set up the WINDBOX initiative to develop cutting-edge testing facilities allowing integration and validation of subsystems for multi-megawatt wind turbines (> 5MW).
WINDBOX was launched in 2014 and promoted by the Basque Government as part of the Basque Country Advanced Manufacturing Strategy. It has also been supported by the Gipuzkoa Province Council and IK4-Tekniker research institute.
(DEIA Bizkaia, Asier Diez Mon) Windbox will enable companies in the sector to test full wind turbines and further develop the technology.
Six test sites in northern Spain subscribed an agreement to create an alliance facilitating the promotion of testing and technologies associated with the development of different marine energies.
The Blade bearing test bench is aimed at conducting tests on the hub, the blade bearings and the bearing-hub and the blade-bearing joints. and due to its dimensions, has required to be enabled in a plot annexed to the Tekniker building.
The Basque Energy Cluster actively took part at the “Basque Industry 4.0” stand that the Basque Department for Economic Development and Infrastructure and the SPRI organised for the 2017 Hannover Messe (24-28 April).
The Windbox consortium, the first Basque Advanced Manufacturing Wind Centre, is now competing in the demanding sector of offshore wind components. Representatives from 8 companies associated with this Consortium joined the Basque Energy Cluster at IK4 Tekniker headquarters to share feedback related to the testing facilities and discuss the position of Basque companies worldwide. The meeting convened by the newspaper Diario Vasco was also attended by the Basque business development agency (SPRI Group).
