The Energy Cluster organizes a business mission to Poland with five companies to explore collaboration opportunities in offshore wind energy

From March 25 to 27, the Energy Cluster organized a business mission with five Basque companies to Gdansk, Poland, a hub for offshore wind energy development in the country. The mission is part of the collaboration maintained with the Pomerania region cluster in the ELBE EUROCLUSTER project.

The mission included visits to facilities of interest and B2B meetings with Polish and European companies. In recent years, Poland has positioned itself as a market of great interest for the renewable energy sector, with significant relevance in the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea, but also as a key player in the construction of wind turbines and components for offshore wind farms throughout the region.

The offshore wind market is developing in the Baltic Sea, and Poland has become the best bet for manufacturing European components for future parks in this sea. However, the Polish supply chain is still developing, and there are various opportunities to collaborate with Polish companies working in the sector. The mission included the participation of five Basque companies: DOMINION, GEINSA, IDOM, KIMUA, and SLINGSINTT. Additionally, as part of the organization within the framework of the European alliance ELBE EUROCLUSTER, the delegation included companies from Belgium, France, and Sweden. During the mission, we had the opportunity to visit the facilities at the port of Gdansk of GPB (manufacturer of large metal structures such as TPs or foundations) and Baltic Towers (tower factory for the wind sector owned by GRI), the latter still under construction.

The delegation also participated in the PowerSummit Connect event, where the most relevant companies in the Polish energy sector gathered. There, the Basque companies were able to meet with Polish wind project developers PGE or Orlen, the energy company Energa, or the Polish TSO PSE, among others.
