The event brought together representatives from twenty-one companies and other organisations interested in developing technological solutions to foster digitalisation in the energy sector, specifically in the field of renewable generation, smart grids and energy efficiency.
In response to the 1st PLATOON Open Call, published on 4 January 2021, the Basque Energy Cluster, working with Tecnalia, has organised an information session aimed primarily at Basque SMEs and start-ups, to provide them with information regarding this Europe-wide initiative and respond to any questions or comments they may have.
At the meeting, held online on 27 January, talks were given by the Basque Energy Cluster Managing Director, José Ignacio Hormaeche, and Erik Maqueda from Tecnalia, as Technical Coordinator of the PLATOON project. They gave a general overview of the project and the open call process to be conducted over the coming two years, focusing on the features of this first call, running from 4 January to 4 March 2021.
The 1st PLATOON Open Call, aimed at SMEs from EU member states and H2020 Associated Countries, will distribute €900,000 among 6 bottom-up projects (up to 150,000€ per project) to develop core functional and\or technical building blocks and new analytics tools for PLATOON’s large-scale pilots. The 6 awarded SMEs will enter the PLATOON Support Programme benefiting from technical mentoring services.

ABOUT PLATOON
The EU-funded H2020 PLATOON project aims to digitalise the energy sector, by deploying distributed edge processing and data analytics technologies, for optimised real-time energy system management in a simple way for the energy domain expert.
The project will be validated in 7 pilots in 4 countries that provide real Energy Big Data cases. PLATOON will facilitate the technology transfer into the market by a well-established tendering process via Open Calls.
