The meeting held on 15th December at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) was attended by 43 participants. The companies Izpitek, Bikote Solar and Ekisolar presented their lines of activity and shared their progress in the GRETHA, AGROVOLTECH, CEUIS 3.0, EKIOCEAN and the ESECA international cluster alliance projects. Furthermore, new collaborative ideas were presented with a view to the Hazitek Strategic 2024 call.
The session began with a review of the current situation of the sector by the Basque Energy Cluster, analysing the growth prospects and new PV installations in Europe in the medium term, the challenges faced, European efforts to boost the PV value chain and the need for an action plan and a package of measures (European Solar PV Manufacturing Package), similar to the one defined for the European wind industry.
This was followed by a series of pitches by 3 partner companies: Izpitek, a start-up focused on the manufacture of photovoltaic modules with cells embedded in composites; Bikote Solar, an engineering firm and installer of turnkey photovoltaic projects; and Ekisolar, developer of customised PV installations focusing on roofs, which presented their fields of action, recent projects and collaboration priority lines with other entities.
In the international section, the Basque Energy Cluster presented the activity of the ESECA alliance - European Sustainable Energy Cluster Partnership for Africa, the networking events organised in Europe (Lille, Gijon and Augsburg), the missions to African countries of interest (Senegal, Kenya, Rwanda) and the mission to Tanzania scheduled for 2024. It also shared its proposal to participate in the Intersolar Europe Fair (Munich, 19th-21st June 2024) by means of a joint stand with interested companies from the Basque value chain under the brand "Solar PV Basque Country".
Following the coffee-networking, the progress of several collaborative R&D projects developed by partner companies and entities was presented: the GRETHA Strategic Hazitek (Digital technologies for a new generation of photovoltaic installations and electrical microgrids) by Tecnalia and Deusto Seidor; AGROVOLTECH (smart agrovoltaic system based on phenological models and advanced sensor systems) by Powerfultree and CEUIS 3.0 (modular technological solution for the management and energy-financial optimisation of urban-industrial energy communities) by PI Berlin. Both projects fall within the framework of the Mincotur Innovative Business Groupings (AEI) programme; as well as the Elkartek EKIOCEAN (new concepts of floating photovoltaic plants for the marine environment) by Tecnalia.
To conclude the meeting, Tecnalia presented CIRCUsPV, an idea for a new collaborative proposal for the Hazitek Strategic 2024 programme on the design and development of a new profitable and sustainable circular ecosystem for photovoltaic panels, which aims to bring together a critical mass of interested companies and further define it over the coming weeks.
