Cluster Activities
This meeting held on 1st December at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Barakaldo was attended by 31 participants, who shared their insights on the sector challenges and opportunities for key technologies to advance the energy transition.
The day started with a welcome speech by the Managing Director at the Basque Energy Cluster, José Ignacio Hormaeche, who highlighted the meeting objectives focused on discussing the strategic approach of the Oil&Gas Sector Forum.
In the first part of the conference, Técnicas Reunidas presented the company's roadmap for decarbonisation by 2025. In addition, the TRACK initiative for the deployment of decarbonisation technologies in industries was also presented.
This was followed by a presentation by Rystad Energy on the materials market situation which is causing a "bottleneck" in the sector. This intervention explained the implications of foreign dependence on the extraction and processing of rare materials for the development of technologies aimed at decarbonising strategic sectors and to produce renewable energies.
After the coffee-networking break, potential priority technological lines in the Oil&Gas sector were discussed following the recent update of the Energibasque Strategy and on-line survey carried out prior to the meeting. This dynamic activity intended to discover which energy transition opportunities are of most interest for companies in the Oil&Gas sector. The technologies discussed are applied to the following areas: upstream, downstream, circular economy, CO2 capture and transition to hydrogen systems and technologies. The participating companies took an active part in a debate mainly focused on CCUS, hydrogen and biogas technologies.
The meeting ended with Fluidex’s review of the internationalisation activities carried out in collaboration with Basque Energy Cluster in 2023 and the calendar planned for 2024. Furthermore, the Basque Energy Cluster presented the recent progress made by the Hydrogen Diversification Working Group, which includes partner companies such as Lointek, EIA21, H2 Planet, Euskalforging, Arflu, Kera-Coat, Innomat and Team.
