The WindEurope annual event 2024, held in Bilbao on 20-22 March, featured a comprehensive talent programme aimed at students and young professionals interested in joining wind energy companies. The Basque Energy Cluster was the sole sponsor of the programme, where it organised guided tours of the “Wind Energy Basque Country” space and unveiled its new talent pool platform.
The opening session of the talent programme took place with the plenary session welcoming the students early on Wednesday 20 March. Oliver Wykes, COO of WindEurope, and Marcos Suárez, Wind Project Manager at the Wind Energy Cluster, gave an introduction to green transition and job opportunities in the wind sector. To close this first session, Marcos Suárez presented the Basque Energy Cluster’s new talent platform. It is a “talent pool” that aims to connect students and companies in the sector: young people only have to register on the registration page and companies will use it to search for the most suitable profiles for their job offers.
An “Inspiration Panel” for students took place on Thursday 21st, moderated by José Ignacio Hormaeche, Managing Director of the Basque Energy Cluster. Professionals from four partner companies of the Basque Energy Cluster (Haizea Wind, Iberdrola, Ingeteam and Ormazabal) took part and shared their personal stories and their work in the wind energy sector, in order to motivate the students. Participants highlighted the excellent working environment in their organisations, the interesting international experiences and the sense of purpose and belonging they share with everyone in the wind sector.
After a networking lunch, a “campfire” session was held, where students shared their needs, concerns, requests and interests regarding their future jobs in the industry.
On the third day of the event, around 200 students had the opportunity to go on guided tours of the companies in the “Wind Energy Basque Country” exhibition hall. The tours began with a presentation of the wind energy value chain in the Basque Country by people from the Basque Energy Cluster, and then the students visited the stands of partner companies in different groups and at different times, where they were introduced to the activities carried out by each of them and the professional development opportunities they offer.
