Saitec Offshore Technologies, Sener, Vicinay, Inalia, Azti, Cidetec Surface Engineering, Ditrel and Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa were involved, with their own editorials highlighting some of their main technological advances in this field.
The report appeared in issue 74 of Wind Energy Network and included a feature on “Floating Wind-Basque Country” (pages 10-19).
The special edition began by providing the context of the current floating wind energy sector in the Basque Country. It cited the first floating wind turbine (SATH) to be connected to the grid in Spain, which was installed by Saitec and is located in one of the two test sites in Spain, namely on the Basque coast of Armintza, in BiMEP.
It also highlighted the two projects supported by the Renmarinas Demos programme. These are the Hive Wind project, a company created by Sener and Nervion Naval Offshore, and the EnerOcean project, a collaboration carried out with the Basque engineering company Isati.
Other key players were also mentioned, particularly Nautilus, which is aiming to install its fully operational platform with a 6 MW turbine in 2025. Similar reference was made to Basque participation and the importance of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network. It has been involved at a regional level in strategic R&D projects such as FLOAT&M and KONFLOT.
Of particular note is the ELBE Eurocluster project, an alliance led by the Energy Cluster, which has brought together eight leading European marine renewable energy clusters. Equally important is the existence of the Floating Wind Working Group, where the floating technology strategy of the Basque Country has been defined thanks to the collaboration of 34 Basque companies and 8 Basque R&D entities.
In addition, eight partner companies and organisations made contributions in the form of editorials, highlighting their technological advances:
