Currently, the project and its Environmental Impact Assessment are in the public information phase, allowing interested parties to submit their considerations.
Located in the municipalities of Aramaio and Eskoriatza and with an installed capacity of 60.4 MW, the Statkraft facility would consist of eight state-of-the-art wind turbines. With this power, it could supply clean and locally sourced energy to approximately 44,100 households every year.
Being aware that any human intervention has an impact on the environment, Statkraft has proposed a series of measures aimed at preserving and, whenever possible, enriching the natural environment of the project. Thus, it proposes a Restoration and Revegetation Plan for the degraded area with an extension at least equal to the total surface affected by the project's execution. This plan is divided into two phases - end of construction and end of the park's lifespan - and includes measures such as planting groups of trees and shrubs with high fruit-bearing capacity in the form of groves and hedges in the valley areas.
In order to improve the quality of the fauna, Statkraft proposes initiatives such as creating artificial burrows, piles of stones to favor prey species populations, new ponds to promote the development of herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians), and water points or drinking troughs for wildlife. The installation of nest boxes and shelters for bats is also planned, along with the implementation of an advanced detection and active shutdown system for the wind turbines to minimize the impact on birdlife.
Recently, Statkraft has signed a sponsorship agreement with cyclist Garazi Estevez (Aretxabaleta, 2002), with whom they share values such as concern for the environment and a positive vision for the future of Euskadi (Basque Country).
