The Basque Energy Cluster, in conjunction with Basque Trade & Investment, organised remote attendance at the fair, consisting of a stand, participation at the keynote seminar, and a B2B event for Basque and Japanese businesses.
The Basque energy sector has again consolidated its leadership in renewables at one of the most important sector fairs held in Japan, REIF - the Renewable Energy Industrial Fair, 2020. The Basque Energy Cluster (ACE) took part alongside a series of its members under the Wind Energy Basque Country brand, with the support of Basque Trade & Investment, the Basque agency for internationalisation.
The event took place over 28-29 October in Fukushima, Japan. The Basque Government has strategic links with its prefecture, namely the partnership between the Basque Energy Cluster and Energy Agency Fukushima (EAF), among others. While this year's presence at the event was via remote means, the Basque Country played an important role by hosting its own stand, taking part in the event's keynote seminar and organising online B2B meetings between Basque and Japanese businesses.
Projects from seven members were showcased: SAITEC, LIFTRA, PI BERLIN, EUSKABEA, ESTEYCO, HWS and ISATI. The companies took part at the stand, by means of a series of video presentations of their activities, and at B2B sessions with Japanese businesses, with logistical and translation support being provided by EAF.
Taking part at REIF 2020 has marked a new stage in the relation with Fukushima prefecture, a strategic partner of the Basque Country for accessing the Japanese market, where renewables form a major part of the country's strategy going forward in the short-term. Basque companies are hoping to build alliances with local businesses interested in the highest industrial technology development in Europe.
Boosting the presence of Basque companies on international markets is one of the aims of the SPRI Group, which, through Basque Trade & Investment, offers a range of resources and support via a one-stop service desk, made possible thanks to their understanding of the sectors and countries involved.
