On March 22, the Basque Energy Cluster organised a side event during WindEurope Bilbao to discuss the latest developments in operating and maintenance (O&M) techniques for the floating wind energy sector. The event was attended by more than 100 people, one of the largest WindEurope conference side events over the three days.
On March 19, the Basque Energy Cluster, in collaboration with Basque Trade & Investment, organised a welcome session for many of the international delegations attending the WindEurope Bilbao 2024 event. Among those attending were delegations from Scotland, Wales, England, the Netherlands, Turkey, Poland and Japan. The Basque Energy Cluster also organised a number of tours of the Wind Energy Basque Country exhibition hall for some of these delegations on the subsequent days of the fair.
The Basque Energy Cluster and Norwegian Offshore Wind signed an MoU to strengthen collaboration between the Norwegian and Basque offshore wind supply chains. The two entities also organised a seminar on the case study of the DemoSATH project, in which they showed the capabilities of Basque and Norwegian companies in this project and in floating wind power in general. Furthermore, the Basque Energy Cluster co-organised a networking event with Rystad Energy, a Norwegian consulting firm that specialises in the energy sector, to raise awareness of their partnership and to provide information on Rystad's recent report for WindEurope.
The European Commission's representatives at the meeting facilitated an open question and answer dialogue which confirmed that ELBE EUROCLUSTER is progressing well. They also shared proposals for new approaches to be included in future calls for Euroclusters with EISMEA and DG GROW.
The more than 12,000 visitors who attended the event were able to visit the stands of the 45 companies that took part at the joint stand under the “Wind Energy Basque Country” brand, where international meetings, presentations on various R&D projects related to the wind energy sector and relaxed networking moments with local gastronomy took place.
On March 18, the Energy Cluster co-organised an information event with BasqueTrade & Investment and Austrade (Australia's international promotion agency) to raise awareness about energy-related opportunities in Australia. In addition, six Basque companies shared their experiences on developing their business in Australia.
The WindEurope annual event 2024, held in Bilbao on 20-22 March, featured a comprehensive talent programme aimed at students and young professionals interested in joining wind energy companies. The Basque Energy Cluster was the sole sponsor of the programme, where it organised guided tours of the “Wind Energy Basque Country” space and unveiled its new talent pool platform.
The event was co-organised by the Basque Energy Cluster and the Spanish Wind Energy Association and attended by 11 other entities from the offshore wind value chain, including the Basque companies Saitec Offshore, Sener and Vicinay Marine.
On March 22, a workshop was held at the Bizkaia Technology Park (Zamudio) to disseminate and transfer the results of VIRTGRID “Digital technologies for function virtualisation and interoperability in Smart Grids”, bringing to a close two years of research coordinated by Tecnalia and developed in collaboration with Ingeteam Research Institute, ZIV R&D, UPV/EHU and the Basque Energy Cluster.
The event was held on March 19 at Accenture's headquarters in the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao and was part of the World Economic Forum's (WEF) “Transitioning Industrial Clusters towards Net Zero” initiative, of which NZBISC is a member. The event focused on exploring the potential of aggregating demand and digital technologies to contribute to a 24/7 clean energy supply and speed up the decarbonisation of industrial clusters, and provided an opportunity for the members of the initiative to share best practices and lessons learned.
