'Rapid charge: breakthrough for electric vehicles' is the conference dealing with future challenges related to electric vehicles organised by the Azkarga Project: Ingeteam, EDS, Iberdrola Clientes, Ibil, ZIV and the Basque Energy Cluster. The event held on 23rd June in Bilbao gathered institutions, international experts and representatives of leading brands in the automotive sector. The conference, held at Iberdrola tower, was also used to launch the Azkarga R&D project initiative.
The event addressed the current situation of rapid charging technology for electric cars, analysing its implementation potential and its impact on the deployment of this market in Spain. A network of rapid charging points is essential for the mass implementation of electric cars.
The conference was attended by the Basque Country's Deputy Minister of Industry and Energy, Javier Zarraonaindia; the Deputy Director for Quality and Industrial Safety of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Prieto; the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association; and the main electric vehicle manufacturers, such as BMW, Nissan, Renault and Volkswagen.
The conference programme was divided into two parts: The first part focused on regulatory frameworks applicable to electric vehicle charging. Existing regulations in Spain were explained and a success story about an electric car charging infrastructure deployment in Norway was presented. In the second part vehicle manufacturers took part and presented their vision and strategy in the field of rapid charging. In the last part the companies promoting the Azkarga project discussed this project and rapid charging technologies.
