BIDELEK 4.0, the new Smart Grids strategic initiative, was presented in a ceremony held on 9 February at Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao, chaired by the Minister for Economic Development and Infrastructures of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia.
Iberdrola Distribución and the Basque Government, through the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), signed the agreement at the ceremony held on 9 February through which they commit to promoting BIDELEK 4.0 - Digitalisation of the electrical grid, an initiative which aims to digitalise the electrical grid in the Basque Country. It responds to the Smart Grids Strategic Initiative - An integral platform for the digital transformation of products and services for Smart Grids, which is one of the priority initiatives of the Basque Country Technological and Industrial Energy Development Strategy EnergiBasque It has a budget of 31 million euros and will be developed over three years (2018-2020).
The Basque Energy Cluster has been involved in defining the technical and economic scope of the Strategic Initiative in detail, where it set up a participatory process with companies in the electrical network value chain, within the framework of the Basque Energy Cluster’s Electrical Grid Working Group. This process has enabled a Report to be produced which collects the contributions and proposals received from 21 companies participating in the comment and contribution phase through bilateral meetings and surveys; the contributions have been presented in an orderly manner, prioritised according to Iberdrola’s medium term vision.
The energy sector, and in particular electrical grids, are currently facing a changing situation with significant challenges such as promoting new services with greater added value for customers (who are becoming increasingly informed and aware), and having the capacity to interact with agents that demand new grid services (aggregators, renewable energy generators, and charging managers). Through innovation and technological development BIDELEK 4.0 will ensure Iberdrola’s position within this environment, and that of its suppliers, in response to these challenges. To do so it will use the same public-private collaboration and business participation model that the Bidelek Sareak project used, the success of which has encouraged Iberdrola and EVE to tackle this new initiative.
A wide range of companies in the electrical grid sector attended the BIDELEK 4.0 presentation and contract signing ceremony at Torre Iberdrola (with over 80 people from 60 companies and organisations present).
