During 27-28 November, the Basque Energy Cluster participated as an exhibitor at the Go Mobility Fair in Ficoba to highlight the projects and activities promoted by the Cluster in the electric mobility sector in the field of energy. It is the first edition of the Sustainable Mobility and Energy Storage Industry fair and it is promoted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, framed within the Electric Mobility Strategy that is being fostered by the same institution.
The Basque Energy Cluster had its own space to showcase the capacities of the Basque Country’s electric mobility value chain, and presented projects by Basque companies such as AZKARGA (Ingeteam), IBILi (Cegasa) and CHARGE@HOME (Ariadna Grid).
On 28 November the Cluster participated in one of the interviews that Grupo SPRI was streaming during the fair. In the interview, Iñaki Gorriño and Jone Irigoyen spoke about the electric mobility sector market and its impact on Basque companies.
They gave the main data on the electric vehicle sector and its charging infrastructures, which show an optimistic scenario for the future, and they mentioned the technological challenges of this market, among which include the lack of infrastructure and the high price of the vehicles.
Furthermore, among the opportunities offered by the electric mobility market to Basque companies, they emphasised the importance of deep technological specialisation in order to position themselves and become an international benchmark. For instance, they mentioned the three examples of research and development projects carried out by Basque companies which were displayed at the cluster stand.
To end the interview, they talked about the role of the cluster when it comes to supporting Basque companies to take advantage of this market. They mentioned that in 2011 the Basque Energy Cluster launched the Energy Cluster Electric Vehicles Working Group as a meeting point for companies, technology agents and the Basque Government in order to promote collaborative actions. In recent years it has been a constant source of ideas for R&D projects in cooperation with companies and technology agents. Furthermore, the EV market situation motivates them to work extensively to support the internationalisation of Basque companies in the sector through the organisation of international missions that have allowed them to know events of interest (such as fairs and first level conferences) and leading European EV markets such as France, The Netherlands and Germany. They ensure that seeing how things are being done in those countries and contacting their most relevant agents allows them to lay the foundations so that collaboration opportunities can be generated between them and our companies.
Ivonne Cerrillo from Ariadna Grid gave a lecture on 27 November at 12:40, called ‘Drawing the future of the electric network’, in which she presented her project Charge@Home and its latest breakthroughs
The main companies and entities of the sector attended this fair, in which it has been possible to show and get to know the latest developments of Basque companies regarding the challenges of the emerging electric vehicle market. It also served as a networking space between companies, entities, government agencies and research and teaching centres. Other active participants included students interested in the market.
