As part of a raft of initiatives aimed at reviving commercial activity after the COVID-19 crisis, Basque Trade & Investment and the Basque Energy Cluster (ACE) have come together to offer a cycle of webinars on emerging markets in the wind power sector. The fifth session, held on 1 October, focussed on the Brazilian wind power market. This country has long experience in the wind power sector and more than 16 GW of installed wind capacity. After its activity slowed down in recent years, a boom is expected and the country hopes to reach 24 GW of installed wind capacity by 2024. Several offshore locations are also being studied in Brazil in order to start installing wind farms.
The webinar started with a presentation by ABEEOLICA (Brazilian Wind Energy Association), which explained the development capacity of this sector in the country, existing installations and future plans, including offshore wind power.
Nordex Brazil tackled the opportunities for Basque companies in the country, as there is a great demand for wind power component manufacturers. They also addressed technology transfer, transport and training. Other topics that were covered were logistics and local issues, and tax regulations that would affect Basque countries in the Brazilian market.
Hine Brazil, a Basque company already established in Brazil and manufacturer of hydraulic pitch systems for wind turbines, offered their view on the Brazilian market and their experience in the country. They concluded with some recommendations for companies interested in entering said market.
