The event, which was held at the Bizkaia Technology Park on May 4 with the collaboration of Deloitte, allowed companies to find out first-hand about the challenges, technological priorities and investment plans of E-Redes in its distribution business for the next few years and to present their activities and technological capabilities in this area, with the aim of promoting opportunities for collaboration.
In the context of the funding framework of the Spanish Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), and with specific reference to investments in the digitalisation of electricity distribution networks (C8.I2), the Basque Energy Cluster, in collaboration with Deloitte, organised a meeting between the companies of the Smart Grids Sector Forum and those responsible for developing these investments at E-Redes (the electricity distribution operator of the EDP Group).
The event, which was attended by 15 entities from the sectoral forum, began with a contextualisation segment in which José Ignacio Hormaeche, Managing Director of the Basque Energy Cluster, presented the Basque value chain relating to smart grids (“Smart Grids Basque Country” and Alberto Díaz and Alberto González-Salas, from the Deloitte team, outlined the main developments in the field of grid digitalisation, in terms of both the regulatory framework and the funding framework in the PRTR.
Alberto Guerra, Director of Business Planning and Development, and Alejandra López, Director of Operations and Maintenance, then explained the organisational structure of E-Redes following the integration process with Viesgo and its investment plan for the next few years, highlighting the technological challenges and priorities in the field of digital transformation, and the more traditional network assets. Both were accompanied by a number of representatives from the E-Redes team, who actively took part in the meeting, both in person and virtually.
On behalf of the Basque companies, representatives from Ariadna Grid/Merytronic, Ingeteam, Ibermática, Lumiker, Arteche, Ormazabal, AEG Power Solutions and Barbara IoT presented their businesses and the products and solutions they are developing for the electricity distribution sector, with a marked digitalisation and technological innovation dimension. They also gave their perspective on the current situation in the sector and the most pressing issues over the last few months, such as the evolution of prices, the fragility of supply chains, and the availability of components and delivery times, among other things.
In the course of the presentations, an interesting exchange of views took place on possible measures to mitigate the negative effects of this situation, including the importance of planning orders in advance, shared stock management, streamlining approval processes and risk sharing in customer-supplier contracts.
This meeting contributed significantly to enhancing the mutual knowledge between E-Redes and the companies in the Smart Grids Sector Forum, and will help to identify collaboration opportunities within the framework of the investments that the distribution operator plans to make in the coming years.
