CURRENT SITUATION
BC3 and TECNALIA, partners in the BIDERATU consortium, presented the project at the “Towards a fair energy transition. Recent lines of work of the MENTES Network” seminar, held on 24th November at the CIEMAT facilities in Madrid.
The Energy Modelling for a Sustainable Energy Transition Themed Network (MENTES Network) is made up of 5 universities (University of Castilla-La Mancha, University of Valladolid, University of Zaragoza, Public University of Navarre and Comillas Pontifical University) and 4 research centres (CIEMAT, IMDEA-Energía, BC3 Basque Centre for Climate Change, TECNALIA Energy Planning Platform), and aims to draw up and provide tools that facilitate decision-making in the transition of the Spanish economy towards a low-carbon economy. In this decarbonisation process, it is vital to evaluate the economic, social and environmental implications of the different alternatives, in such a way that any problems that this transition may generate are anticipated.
At the aforementioned seminar, Iñaki Arto (BC3) and Diego García Gusano (TECNALIA), presented the “BIDERATU Integrated Modelling System” which, developed from an integrated and transdisciplinary perspective, will mathematically model interrelations between society, economy, energy and the environment and will be used to rigorously analyse different decarbonisation scenarios.
