CURRENT SITUATION
The meeting, which took place on December 21 at the Plaza Bizkaia Building in Bilbao, was attended by the project partners and members of the Advisory Committee (EVE, Ihobe, Siderex, AFV, Clusterpapel, Petronor and Iberdrola), who appreciated the features of the modelling tool, which is aimed at supporting the definition of strategies and decision-making by public administrations in relation to decarbonising the economy, with a focus on the industrial sector.
The two main models (energy and macroeconomic) which make up the tool developed were presented at the meeting. The two models are very closely interlinked: the results from the macroeconomic model feed into the energy model, the results from which, in turn, are fed back into the macroeconomic model. This recirculation, which was one of the project's main challenges, is a differentiating factor compared to other existing energy transition models. After describing the modelling system, the results provided by the tool for the prospective trend or business as usual (BaU) scenario were presented for the Basque Country. In contrast to this BaU scenario, an alternative decarbonisation scenario to the baseline scenario was also presented for the Basque Country, which will be used in the remaining three months of the project as a proof of concept to validate the general integrated model and its response to different hypotheses. Finally, an interesting discussion ensued with an exchange of opinions and contributions on the potential applications of the integrated modelling system built. The members of the Advisory Committee also encouraged the further development of the tool and expressed their interest in closely following future developments.
