RESULTS
The BIDERATU Management Committee reviews the progress made during the first half of the project and gives a very positive assessment of the results, which will make it possible to tackle the final modelling tasks with assurance over the coming months.
A meeting of the BIDERATU Management Committee was held at TECNALIA's headquarters on April 29 to assess the progress made during the first few months of the project and to plan the work to be carried out in the coming months. The meeting provided an opportunity to check that the objectives set to date have been met, both in terms of technical aspects and deadlines.
It should be noted that, as a determining factor regarding the future functionality of the BIDERATU integrated modelling and planning tool, the work carried out with decision-makers made it possible to identify and take their needs and requirements into account during the design of the tool in terms of defining and assessing energy transition scenarios.
The high-level architecture of the integrated modelling system has been defined over recent months, outlining the functions and characteristics of its main modules and specifying the interrelationships between them. In this sense, progress has been made in developing the common modelling framework needed to develop the BIDERATU tool correctly, and the programming and organisational standards have been defined, along with the common database that will supply the different models.
After defining this common framework, the modelling of the main modules and the compilation of data on technology, costs, macroeconomic data, etc., needed to define both the base year and the long-term decarbonisation scenarios, got underway. The key industrial sectors were also characterised in terms of their CO2 emission levels and, therefore, their importance and impact on the decarbonisation of the economy. Progress has been made in disaggregating and modelling these sectors, and in analysing the potential decarbonisation trends applicable to each of them, based on this characterisation.
