Sixty companies, schools, clusters and official colleges from the energy efficiency and environmental innovation sectors came together at the Landako Gunea Centre in Durango, Bizkaia, over 31 January - 2 February, for Berdeago Energy. The Basque Energy Cluster took part at the Environmental Innovation Island, telling young visitors about professional opportunities in the Basque energy sector.
The Cluster highlighted its commitment as a catalyst for the sector and for entrepreneurship, in addition to responding to issues in order to reach the Sustainable Development Goals in the energy sector.
With a focus on talent recruitment, the Cluster spoke to students attending the fair in order to promote career options in the Basque energy sector. With this aim, the Cluster took part in activities targeted at the young visitors, animated by a team of students from LEINN, the university degree in Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. It is well-known for using an innovative educational method developed in Finland, based on learning by means of setting up businesses and real teamwork projects at international level. In this way, the Cluster participated alongside a team of entrepreneurs, to highlight the professional opportunities that the Basque energy sector offers young people with an interest in renewable energies and their application in the business world.
Berdeago Energy also provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the Hazinnova project, sponsored by Innobasque, the Spri Group and the Basque Government's Department for Economic Development and Infrastructures, to visiting SMEs. Hazinnova is a free consultancy and mentoring programme targeted at SMEs, with an emphasis on new work organisation methods and new means of marketing products and services. The Cluster acts as an agent for Hazinnova and remains open to companies throughout the process, offering support in dealing with the agency and in defining micro-projects.
The fair also featured a series of professional workshops, organised to showcase technology in the sector. One of the most intriguing features of this year's edition was the Tiny House, an accessible smart house, jointly designed and built by teachers and students from different fields of various vocational education schools in the Basque Country and supervised by the Tknika applied research and innovation centre.
