As part of the Talent Day held on the last day of the event, the Basque Energy Cluster Association (ACE) organised an activity aimed at introducing the industrial fabric of the Basque wind energy sector to Master's degree, Bachelor's degree and higher education students. The event was opened by SPRI and included presentations by companies and guided tours of the stands in the Wind Energy Basque Country exhibition hall.
The opening session featured a speech by Cristina Oyón, Director of Technology, Innovation and Sustainability at SPRI, who highlighted the strengths of the Basque energy sector in terms of tackling the energy transition and stressed the need to increase the (currently low) presence of women in companies in the energy sector as a crucial element in ensuring their competitiveness.
After the opening ceremony, the more than 250 students invited by ACE, who came from the engineering faculties of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the University of Deusto and Mondragon University, and the vocational training centres of Tknika's energy hub, were split into 4 groups of sessions held throughout the morning. Students attended a number of presentations on the Wind Talks for Innovation stage in each session, in which leading companies such as Iberdrola and Siemens Gamesa, and technology centres of reference such as Tecnalia and Ikerlan, outlined the interesting professional development opportunities offered by the wind energy sector. In turn, ACE provided the students with an overview of the trends and future prospects of the sector and the important Basque value chain in the sector.
The students then had the chance to take a guided tour of the stands in the Wind Energy Basque Country exhibition hall, where ACE organised the joint participation of more than 50 Basque companies as exhibitors. During visits to their stands, entities such as Arteche, EVE, Glual, Gureak, Haizea Wind, Idom, Ikerlan, Inalia, Lumiker, Nautilus, Ormazabal, Pcvue, Saitec, Sener, Tecnalia, Xabet or ZIV were able to explain what they do, the professional development opportunities they offer and the profile of the candidates they are looking for to the students.
The students, who appreciated the event, had the rest of the day free to visit a fair attended by the leading companies in the sector.
