ACE, together with the ESECA project consortium, co-organized the second and third business missions to Kenya and Rwanda from October 2nd to 12th, with the aim of establishing contacts of interest in both markets and opening new opportunities for European companies in the renewable energy and smart grids sectors. The mission to Kenya involved 10 European companies from the energy sector, including Ormazabal and Cegasa. The mission to Rwanda, on the other hand, involved 6 companies, including Arteche.
The business mission to Kenya took place in the first week of October 2023, from the 2nd to the 6th, and included 12 representatives from 10 European companies from Spain, France, Italy, and Germany, including the Basque companies Ormazabal and Cegasa.
On the first day of the mission, the ESECA consortium organized a workshop where the most relevant entities in the country presented the potential and business opportunities in the Kenyan market. European companies, in turn, introduced themselves through a brief presentation. The mission continued with participation in the "International Trade Fair & Conference on Power, Energy, Renewable & Electrical Industry" POWERLEC (an international fair exclusively dedicated to the generation, renewable energy, and electricity sectors), where the European delegation had a booth for attendees to visit and hold meetings. Additionally, parallel to this, the "Renewable Energy Forum Africa" REFA 2023 took place (an annual conference that promotes investment in renewable energy in the African continent organized by the African Solar Energy Association and SolarPower Europe), where attendees were able to have meetings with key players in Kenya and engage in B2B meetings.
The mission extended to Rwanda the following week, from October 9th to 12th, to attend a collaborative event in the energy sector between African and European agents.
The agenda of the mission to Rwanda also began with a workshop where European companies learned about market opportunities, financing, and Rwandan regulations, and were able to make initial contacts of interest with the most relevant entities in the country. On this occasion, the European delegation consisted of 7 representatives from 6 European companies from Spain, France, Italy, and Germany, including Arteche. After the workshop, the delegation attended the LEAP-RE Stakeholder Forum event organized by the LEAP-RE Community, which aims to create long-term collaboration between African and European agents. The event focused on collaboration in R&D projects and included activities such as overviews of European projects and initiatives, as well as a policy workshop on climate change and sustainable energy.
The European Sustainable Energy Cluster partnership for Africa (ESECA) is a partnership formed by five European clusters (ACE, MEDEE, LE2C, MetaIndustry4, and ECPE) from Spain, France, Italy, and Germany. Together, they bring together about 550 organizations and 290 SMEs. The main objective of ESECA is to promote business collaboration among European companies in the renewable energy, generation, distribution, and transmission of electrical energy sectors, with the aim of developing a joint internationalization plan with common goals towards the markets of sub-Saharan Africa (Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda).
