ACE, together with the ESECA project consortium and the AEWEN project consortium, has co-organized the first business mission to Senegal from July 3rd to July 7th. The main objective of this mission was to establish valuable contacts in the Senegalese market, thereby creating new opportunities for European companies in the renewable energy and smart grids sectors. The mission included the participation of 33 representatives of 26 European companies from the energy sector, among them, the Basque companies Ormazabal and R2M Solutions.
Senegal has firm plans for deploying renewable energy systems, including solar and wind, and aims to develop a smarter grid system that will integrate with new renewable parks. Additionally, the country offers various financing programs to develop projects in these areas, and Senegalese companies are actively seeking European partners to collaborate on smart grid projects, microgrids, storage solutions, and renewable energy generation systems.
To showcase Senegal's potential and foster collaboration, the mission included an event/conference titled "Opportunities for collaboration in the energy and water sectors." Key entities from Senegal presented the business opportunities in their market, and attending European companies had the opportunity to introduce themselves through brief presentations.
During the following two days, more than 70 individual meetings were arranged to allow each European company to meet potential clients or stakeholders from the country.
To conclude the mission, a second event titled "Funding opportunities in Senegal for European and African companies" took place, featuring speakers from Eurocham, a Senegalese legal association aimed at promoting and supporting European investments in Senegal, and the Islamic Development Bank, among others.
The European Sustainable Energy Cluster partnership for Africa (ESECA) is a consortium formed by five European clusters (ACE, MEDEE, LE2C, MetaIndustry4, and ECPE) from Spain, France, Italy, and Germany. Together, they gather around 550 organizations and 290 SMEs. ESECA's main objective is to promote business collaboration among European companies in the renewable energy, electricity generation, distribution, and transmission sectors. They aim to develop a joint internationalization plan with common goals targeting the sub-Saharan Africa markets (Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda).
