The 2019 WindEurope week at the BEC has offered many opportunities to the attendees. In addition to attending the fair, some institutions had the chance to visit key facilities of the wind power sector in the Basque Country. The Basque Energy Cluster guided a group of institutions from African countries on a small tour around several stands in the Wind Energy Basque Country hall on 4 April. The next day, they visited companies from the port of Bilbao jointly with companies from other European regions.
Different parallel events took place at the 2019 WindEurope fair. These included sessions to learn about African emerging markets, where representatives from Kenya, Nigeria and Mozambique presented their perspectives on wind power and the renovation of the electricity network. This group of institutional representatives had the opportunity of visiting the Wind Energy Basque Country hall, where they enjoyed a brief tour through the stands of companies such as Kimua, Protecttion, Alerion, Aeroblade and Ormazabal, Basque companies experts in O&M of wind farms and electronic devices for the connection of these farms to the network.
On the other hand, during the fair, the regions from the Atlantic Arc met and had the chance to visit that hall.
On Friday, as part of the official event outside of the fair dates, Uniport co-organised a visit to the port of Bilbao for these institutions. During the visit they presented the port’s value as a key location for the transport of large parts for the wind power sector. This presentation was completed with visits to the Haizea Wind factory and the Siemens Gamesa port facilities for the storage and distribution of the large parts of their wind turbines.
