At the meeting, held on 8 July, EDINOR presented the regulatory elements relevant to the sector, shared its experience in local energy communities and highlighted the challenges for their successful implementation.
On 8 July, a new meeting of the Energy Services and Mobility for the Consumer Sector Forum of the Basque Energy Cluster, coordinated by EDINOR, was held at the BEC. The session took place in a mixed format (face-to-face + online) and was attended by 56 participants (34 face-to-face and 22 online).
On behalf of EDINOR, Iñigo Cobelo –Director of Distributed Energy Business Development and Coordinator of the Sectoral Forum– reviewed the relevant regulatory elements such as the entry into force of new charges and tolls and the new structure of access tariffs, the Royal Decree on incentives linked to self-consumption and storage (RD 477/2021) and the Draft Order creating a capacity market in the Spanish electricity system. He also highlighted EDINOR's commitment to local energy communities and the challenges that need to be addressed for their successful implementation. Among them, he highlighted citizen involvement, the need for institutional leadership and a regulation that allows and then accompanies this type of initiative.
With regard to electric mobility, Mikel Zamalloa, head of IBIL's High Power Charging Programme, presented the Plug & Charge and Megawatt Charging System (MGS) concepts for charging electric vehicles, and the PnC Europe (Plug & Charge Europe) initiative sponsored by CHARIN and promoted by 15 leading companies in Europe (including IBIL), whose objective is the technical and market implementation of an open and neutral PKI.
The meeting also served as a framework to present the new Working Group for the 'Definition of a shared self-consumption demonstrator with hybridisation of renewable technologies for local energy communities', promoted by ARGOLABE Ingeniería, who in addition to showing its capabilities in engineering specialised in product design for different sectors, presented the objectives, activities and expected results of the new working group, inviting interested attendees to join it.
The event also had a pitch session in which three SMEs took part: CARLO GAVAZZI, a company specialising in the design, manufacture and marketing of solutions in the field of industrial automation, building automation and energy efficiency; TECMAN Group, a company that offers the definition, development, assembly and installation of renewable installations (photovoltaic, cogeneration with green hydrogen or aerothermal, among other examples) and their maintenance and monitoring through its energy management software; and VELTIUM SMART CHARGERS, a company specialising in the manufacture of innovative solutions for charging electric vehicles.
The Basque Energy Cluster presented, on the one hand, the key aspects of the components of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) and the roadmap for accessing funds; and on the other hand, the open innovation project District Bilbao Zero2, which aims to promote collaboration between companies in the value chains of the Construction, Energy and Environment sectors with technology agents to identify opportunities for the application of technologies and develop technological prototyping projects in Bilbao. Finally, the recently published Horizon Europe programme for the period 2021-2022 was presented, specifically for Cluster 5: climate, energy and mobility, highlighting those areas and calls more related to the energy and mobility services sector for the consumer.
The event and the networking coffee break at the end made it possible to regain contact and proximity with many of the members of the Sectoral Forum, again showing a reversal in the trend of participation (greater in person than online), which allows us to face the final stretch of the year from an optimistic perspective in terms of the recovery of the usual dynamic of the meetings in the Basque Energy Cluster Sectoral Forums.
