The joint project between the Basque Energy Cluster and Aclima, the Basque Environment Cluster was launched on 10th October and it seeks to identify new collaboration opportunities between companies of both sectors based on the Circular Economy.
It relies on the support of the Bizkaia Provincial Council's Elkarlanean programme, which is aimed at fostering the identification of inter-sectoral collaboration opportunities in the Bizkaia region.
In this case, the project will drive the energy value chains, with particular interest in the field of eco-design, as well as in other areas, such as sustainability management in supply chains, servitisation, re-manufacturing or energy recovery. These concepts have a high potential of being used in the value chains represented in the Basque energy sector, such as electricity grids, oil&gas, wind power and solar power. In all of them, eco-design and the analysis of the life cycle of materials and energy consumption from a circular economy point of view may play an important role in the competitiveness of companies.
The project will be addressed from the perspective of innovation with a new open-collaborative method, seeking opportunities aligned with the strategy of companies. To do so, both clusters have the support of IDOM, a consultancy firm of renowned prestige and extensive experience in the energy and environmental sectors.
Four stages are considered: an initial analysis and diagnosis phase, in which the base context will be reviewed and the challenges and opportunities will be evaluated. The second phase will be devoted to conceptualisation, in which the options with the highest potential and which best adapt to the strategic objectives of the participating companies will be selected jointly. The third stage of the project will consist of the definition, in which the chosen opportunities will be further studied in terms of their contribution to value, costs, business case and action plan for their implementation. In the final phase, articulation, progress will be made on the drafting of joint projects that strengthen the ties between the participants and respond to the opportunities identified.
The ultimate objective of the project is the identification and selection of a set of business opportunities that could be tackled through joint initiatives between companies from the Basque Energy Cluster and Aclima and the design of an action plan to address these priority business opportunities.
