On 19 September, the Basque Energy Cluster organised the first meeting of the Advisory Committee of the NEOSUB project, subsidised by the Hazitek programme of the Basque Government, which seeks to create a new concept of eco-designed substation, developing a reference framework for future substations.
This Advisory Committee is made up of electricity transmission and distribution operators as potential users of the future eco-designed substation, and its goals are to facilitate information exchange on the progress and results of the project, to assess them and to know the plans and actions undertaken by the operators in relation to the promotion of sustainability in their infrastructures.
This first meeting brought together representatives from E-Redes (formerly EDP Distribución), i-DE (formerly Iberdrola Distribución), Red Eléctrica de España and Viesgo Distribución.
The session began with a presentation by each of the operators regarding their environmental strategy and their activity in the design of new substations. Next Tecnalia offered a general overview of the project, followed by individual presentations of each consortium member addressing their specific activities on issues related to the eco-design of their processes and products applied to a substation.
The meeting fostered an open debate between equipment manufacturers and operators, to delve into the activities that are currently carried out in the companies and to promote potential joint actions between the consortium and the operators.
The Advisory Committee ended the meeting with a set of conclusions shared by all the companies. The final evaluation of the Committee was very positive, encouraging companies to follow the path and awaiting new results for upcoming meetings. It is expected to hold at least one annual meeting during the three years of the project. For more information about the NEOSUB project visit: http://www.clusterenergia.com/neosub.
