The Basque Energy Cluster (ACE), in collaboration with CIDE (Asociación de Distribuidores de Energía Eléctrica - Spanish Association for Electric Power Distributors), have developed an Expression of Interest under the title “Development of solutions in the smart grids value chain that contribute to promote flexibility in the energy system”, which will be submitted for the call for proposals for Power system flexibility, electrical infrastructure, smart grids, and deployment of energy storage of the Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITECO). The Expression of Interest comprises 53 Basque Energy Cluster members, including 25 SMEs and 9 knowledge agents as potential partners in these projects.
The Expression of Interest is spearheaded by the Basque Energy Cluster and will focus on the development of digitalisation solutions for electric grids and storage systems, considered as another tool for the management and operation of distribution grids to face the challenge of the growing integration of renewable sources in the electric system.
Within the context of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, the acceleration of a fair and inclusive energy transition is the key element for economic recovery and the foundation on which to rebuild a more sustainable and resilient financial model. The 2021-2030 Spanish Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and the 2050 Long-Term Decarbonisation Strategy (LTS) expect a significant growth of renewable power generation, which requires the transformation of the centralised and unidirectional energy system into a distributed, multidirectional, smart, and flexible system, using tools such as grid, storage and demand management digitalisation, and developing storage and flexibility services.
To ensure the efficiency of the Plan, MITECO has launched a call to collect the essential information, which will allow, where appropriate, the autonomous construction and further development by the Government of strategic lines of action to improve the flexibility of the energy system as a whole in a competitive and sustainable manner; including, among others, smart grids and the deployment of energy storage, while supporting the significant growth expected in renewable generation for the coming years.
Along these lines, ACE will continue to provide support in drawing up collaborative initiatives and projects with the aim of giving companies access to Next Generation EU funds, using mechanisms to be set up over the coming months.
