The Atlantic Floating Hub initiative has been defined in collaboration with three other associations in the north of Spain: ASIME-GOE (Galicia), AINER (Asturias), and SICC (Cantabria).
The initiative was presented on 25 February 2021 at the call for Expressions of Interest issued by the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to identify mechanisms to further promote renewable energy as a lever for recovery.
Atlantic Floating Hub seeks to promote the role of the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia as the axis for technological and industrial development for offshore wind power in southern Europe. The success and potential of the Atlantic Floating Hub is based on three key premises:
Although it is an exceptional market opportunity and the region has the means to harness it, the commitment to offshore wind power requires high investment levels to tackle the last development stages. While companies are positioning themselves and progressing in this area, Atlantic Floating Hub's goal is to become a unifying agent, that promotes and accelerates the different undergoing initiatives, consolidating projects under development and promoting participation in the value chain of the north of Spain for its industrial and technological development.
More specifically, Atlantic Floating Hub brings together five singular initiatives from the different regions in the north of Spain and also has a strategic office to coordinate all of the different actions to maximise its impact within the local network.
