On 20th July, Ricardo Chocarro, CEO for South Europe and Africa of the new Siemens Gamesa, presented the challenges faced by the new company after the merger to consolidate its position on the wind market and the supply chain role in the new broad market of Siemens Gamesa, at the Chamber of Commerce of Gipuzkoa (Donostia-San Sebastian).
iemens Gamesa informed a group of thirty Basque suppliers of the challenges to be faced by the company after the merger as well as opportunities which will be available to suppliers to broaden their business portfolio as a result of the merger of two companies at the forefront of the wind market such as Gamesa and Siemens Wind Power.
Thus, Ricardo Chocarro presented the new company structure and figures related to the merger of both wind energy companies which now lead the market in terms of installed capacity with 75 GW around the word, approximately 27,000 employees and an order backlog amounting to €20 million.
Furthermore, Gonzalo Alonso, Purchasing Director for South Europe and Africa, stressed the new situation for Siemens Gamesa supply chain, where all suppliers will have equal opportunities to compete in the same conditions for tenders called by the new company. According to Siemens Gamesa, this will create stronger consortia, collaboration opportunities on a broader global market and the development of new cutting-edge technology with the widest portfolio in the market.
Gonzalo Alonso also emphasised the words of Markus Tacke (Siemens Gamesa CEO) at the latest shareholders' meeting of the company highlighting the importance of the roots of Siemens Gamesa in the Basque Country where Gamesa was established and in Navarre, where the company still has a strong presence. "These roots not only apply to our organisation but also to a very strong growing network of Spanish suppliers who have always been there and continue to do so"; adding "any organisation wishing to grow and expand around the world needs solid roots".
