On 7th March, the Basque Energy Cluster organised, in conjunction with Shesa (Sociedad de Hidrocarburos de Euskadi), a business visit to the Viura project's gas deposit in Sotés, La Rioja. The visit was of special interest for companies of the Oil and Gas sector in the Basque Country, which were given the opportunity to discover first-hand a unique infrastructure for the conventional exploration and production of gas.
The Viura deposit, which came into commercial production at the end of 2017, is located in Sotés, La Rioja, about twelve kilometres from Logroño. The gas extraction and treatment plant is managed by a consortium led by Unión Fenosa Gas and Shesa. The deposit is estimated to contain at least a proven volume of 3 bcm of gas, or in other words, the equivalent of the annual gas consumption in the Basque Country.
On 7th March, a group of companies made up of DOMINION, ERREKA, SENER, TUBACEX and TUBOS REUNIDOS, accompanied by the Basque Energy Cluster and guided by Shesa, visited the Viura project facilities, departing from the EVE offices in Bilbao, where Shesa had previously given a theoretical presentation on the project.
Once at the Viura facilities, the companies were given a guided tour of the gas treatment plant, followed by one of the exploration wells. During the visit, participants were able to discover first-hand the facilities, its structure, operation and everything related to the processes carried out there, and ask any questions.
