This first meeting of the Electric Charging Sector Forum took place on February 29 at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC). More than 30 representatives of companies and entities from the value chain took part, sharing their visions on electric mobility and raising a number of technological challenges to be tackled through collaborative projects.
Jose Ignacio Hormaeche, Managing Director of the Basque Energy Cluster, gave the welcome speech and began by looking back. He reminded the audience that the Strategic Plan of the Basque Energy Cluster 2023-2026 (PECE 2026), which was approved last year by the Board of Directors, proposed the launch of the Electric Charging Sector Forum, with the aim of boosting collaborative activities by partners who are part of or have an interest in this field. After an initial overview of current events in the sector, Ainhoa Garmendia from Iberdrola emphasised their commitment to electric mobility and, as coordinator of the Sector Forum, explained the main challenges they are facing and the different actions they are undertaking to expand their charging network.
The meeting was followed by five pitch presentations by partner companies involved in developing, manufacturing and distributing electric charging technology and services: Veltium, Ingeteam, Ibil, Carlo Gavazzi and Batura Mobile.
Common messages were raised in the various presentations related to aspects such as the interoperability of different products and services and the importance of accessibility to charging points for users. Companies also highlighted the importance of offering 24/7 maintenance and support services to customers and users of charging infrastructures, as well as the incorporation of technologies that facilitate the flow of information with users and make it possible to monitor and control information.
After a coffee and networking break, MUBIL presented the #MubilHub, a public-private initiative promoted by Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, aimed at making Gipuzkoa and the Basque Country an important player in the field of smart and sustainable mobility. Monica Alday, Director of FICOBA, also shared the latest news about the MUBIL Mobility Expo, which will take place in Ficoba (Irun) on April 17 and 18.
The Basque Energy Cluster used the last part of the meeting to give a presentation on the technological lines in the area of Energibasque's Electric Mobility (strategy for technological and industrial development in energy) and, based on these lines, sparked a discussion among attendees on possible lines of collaboration on R&D for the coming year.
