On 23rd June, Bizkaia Technology Park auditorium held a one-day seminar to foster a forum to exchange ideas, experiences and success stories on ICT integration into production processes to promote energy efficiency in industrial environments. The day was divided into three sections which offered a complete overview of the context and experiences of the different value chain players in the development and implementation of efficiency solutions 4.0.
After the welcoming and opening words of Aitor Oregi, Energy, Mines and Industrial Administration Director of the Basque Government, the first section included speeches focused on a general approach to Energy Efficiency in Industry 4.0 in the Basque Country. To do so, Luis de Velasco, Basque Energy Board (EVE) Head of Industry Projects, offered an overview of current support policies in place in the Basque Autonomous Region (CAPV) regarding energy efficiency; while José Ignacio Hormaeche, Basque Energy Cluster Managing Director, reviewed the priority lines required for Energy Efficiency in Industry identified in the EnergiBasque strategy.
The second part of the day, moderated by Marcos Suárez, of the Basque Energy Cluster, included the participation of the companies OPTIMITIVE, SISTEPLANT and GUINEA HORNOS INDUSTRIALES, which provided their insights as ICT solution suppliers to control the industrial process and the energy expense variable. Different speeches described success stories of offer-side companies with very different technological skills from software development to the definition of complete solutions or introducing technologies 4.0 into intensive energy use critical devices such as industrial ovens.
The third part of the day, moderated by Aitor Oregi, featured the experiences of organisations on the demand-side, including the participation of most of the more relevant Basque companies in energy use such as: GESTAMP, CIE AUTOMOTIVE, MERCEDES BENZ, XPO LOGISTICS and PETRONOR. The different speeches focused on their experience deploying monitoring systems or applying emerging technologies such as Big Data to energy efficiency.
The success of the seminar, which had over one hundred attendees, is a good example of the relevant role played today by energy efficiency and the introduction of 4.0 concepts for the Basque industry.
