At the meeting, held on 29 June, PETRONOR presented the latest breakthroughs in the Basque Hydrogen Corridor and the consultancy firm DELOITTE shared the current status and next steps regarding the distribution of European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, among other presentations.
On 29 June, the Basque Energy Cluster held a new meeting of the Hydrogen Sector Forum at the BEC, coordinated by PETRONOR and in collaboration with eight other sector cluster associations involved in hydrogen deployment (ACICAE, ACLIMA, FLUIDEX, FMV, MAFEX, MLCITS, HEGAN and SIDEREX). The session took place in a mixed format (face-to-face + online) and was attended by 155 participants (65 face-to-face and 90 online).
On behalf of PETRONOR, Jose Ignacio Zudaire, coordinator of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, reviewed and updated the status of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, which is already considered a strategic project of special importance at European level. Looking to the future, he stressed the importance of strengthening the governance of the project and creating a management instrument that will allow it to move forward.
Next, Alberto Diaz from DELOITE detailed the vision of the Next Generation programme, which aims to ensure a joint and robust response by all EU member states to address the economic and social consequences of the pandemic. He explained how to access these funds and the challenges at the national level to leverage this amount of support.
The session was also attended by Estibaliz Crespo, coordinator of R&D projects at CIC energiGUNE, who gave a brief overview of what the European Cl[LI1] ean Hydrogen Alliance consists of; Jose Maria Canales, coordinator of the Bilbao campus of Mondragón Unibertsitatea, who presented the new initiative of the inter-university master's degree in hydrogen technologies (MITH); Elena Silveira, from Tecnalia's corrosion department, who gave a brief introduction on the damage that can be caused by metallic materials when in contact with hydrogen; and Roberto Arroniz, Sarralle's environment and energy manager, who explained the H-ACERO initiative, a project that analyses the potential for decarbonisation in steel production.
In addition, there was a pitch session in which the associated companies EIA XX1, INNOMARKET and FNXlng Solutions presented their capabilities, experiences, interests and opportunities for collaboration within the framework of the hydrogen economy.
On behalf of the Basque Energy Cluster, Marcos Suarez presented the final version of the catalogue of hydrogen capacities in the Basque Country, a document that will serve as a tool to promote the image of the Basque Country as a reference in the field of H2.
The event and the networking coffee break at the end of the day allowed contact and proximity with the members of the recently created Sectoral Forum, who were grateful for the opportunity after more than a year without meeting physically as a result of the pandemic.
